File viewing, Tag and Copy, Move, Delete. Redirection of output to an ASCII file. Also features Pull-Down Menus and optional mouse support. Can print files from specified page numbers, print line numbers, preview number of pages to print, and replace IBM box characters with User defined characters. Configurations are possible for printer setup, screen colors mouse functions, text output, e.t.c. Rename files Can print filename, current date /time and File's date/time at the top of the first page. Powerful yet easy to use. With PrintPlus you can print or view files of any lenght! Load your autoexec.bat file into your file editor,WP, etc. 2. Enter the following, adding it to your Autoexec.bat file. set PLUSDATA=C:\util Where util would be the directory you want Plus57.dat to occupy. Change 'util' to whatever path you want. PLUSDATA=C:\path must have no spaces. 3. Save AUTOEXEC.BAT back to your Root Directory. 4. Now your data file will load and be saved to your chosen path. ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ~ RUNNING THE PROGRAM: ~ ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ You should make a copy of your disk first. If you place PrintPlus on a hard drive, make sure to have it within your path for easy access. Files I would recommend to place on disk are these. P57.exe Main program "PrintPlus". P57doc Documentation for PrintPlus. Plus57.dat Data file for color monitors. Plus57.mon Data file for monochrome monitors. Check the file PACKING.LST for a complete list of files. To get the program up and running simple type in the name of the program at the Dos prompt. P57 Then press [Enter] At the top the path will be shown. In the top box the file name will be displayed that's under the cursor. The file size will be to the right. If its a directory " DIRECTORY ║ " will be displayed instead. At the extreme right the amount of free bytes available will be shown. Using Alt-I you can toggle this on and off. This will speed up the cursor on a slow floppy when this is toggled off. page 5 ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ~ MENU BAR ~ ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ Under this box the Menu Bar will be displayed. This will show your options. Press the first letter of the menu desired to pull down that menu. Example: Press 'V' for the View menu. Once a menu is displayed you can use the Left/Right arrow keys to move to the subsequent menus. The Up/Down arrows will take you through the options of that specific menu. [Enter] will either choose the option the cursor is on or change the value. (Pmode,Header,Imitate) You may also press the first letter of the desired option. MOUSE USERS: Pointing to and clicking on the desired menu will pull down that menu. When inside a menu point to the option desired and click on it to either choose that option or change it. Point to the extreme Left/Right and clicking will move you to the subsequent menus. Right button escapes. The # of pages will be shown for each of the Pmodes (0 1 2 3) so that you can easily compare the paper savings for the subject file. To un mark a file press the space bar again. It works as a toggle. When marked there will be an arrow < to the right of the filename and the filename will be in `Mark' text . The exception of the above is if it's a `Today file' it will have a smaller arrow marking it at the end. MOUSE USERS: The right button is used to mark the files, unless you reverse the buttons with Ctrl-B. ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ~ MORE ABOUT MARKING FILES ~ ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ Alt-M will toggle AUTOMARK. With this on, after marking a file the cursor will advance to the next file. [TAB] Will toggle all of the files. Mark files will be unmark and unmark files will be mark. Alt-R will unmark all files. MOUSE USERS: Clicking on ║ Mark All ║ will do the same as [TAB] above. page 8 ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ~ TODAY'S FILES: ~ ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ Any file with today's date will be displayed in `todaymark'■. This makes it easier to find a file you just down loaded etc. for printing. When these files are marked for printing they will also be in the `Mark' color and have a `small arrow' at the end. ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ~ [PAGE DN] FOR NEXT SCREEN ~ ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ If there are more files than will fit on one screen pressing [Page Dn] will bring you to the next screen. This will unmarked all files on the previous screen so print all the marked files on one screen at a time. [H]eader toggle With this on a header will be printed at the top of the 1st. page containing the filename, current date/time & the file's date/time. 4. [ 0] [ 1],[ 2],[ 3] Changes the Pmode describe below. 5. [Alt-P] Preview # of pages printed in each Pmode. 6. [F]ormfeed sent to printer 7. [B] Toggle Ibm Box/User defined characters. 8. [Esc] Leave menu. 9. skip On Pressing 'O' toggles skip on/off for Pmodes 1,2 &3. page 10 ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ~ CHANGING PRINTING MODES ~ ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ 0 1 2 & 3 are used to change the way the files are to be printed. 0 Will print the file straight through, without any reformatting or formfeed stripping. The IBM/User Box will work here also. This works great with doc files with embedded formfeeds. Also when printing from page n to n. 1 Will print the file skipping the perforations and adding a formfeed at the end of the file. 2 Does the same as 1 plus skips any blank lines beyond one. This reduces paper waste and still leaves very good readability. 3 Same as 1 but cuts out practically all of the blank lines. Reduces paper waste the most but may be somewhat harder to read in some cases. When the file(s) are being printed... The name of the file being printed will be displayed in the menu bar. Along with the current page number being printed. Press [Esc] to abort printing. This will bring up a prompt. Press T to abort the current file and continue with the rest. Press [Esc] to abort all. Press C to continue with the current file. If you choose to print a file without marking a file an input box will open with the file under the cursor. Press [Enter] to print this file. [Esc] to abort. If you want to print another file just type the file name in. The box will open up larger at the first letter entered. This will leave enough room for a path if desired. page 11 ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ~ PRINTING SPECIFIED PAGES ~ ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ Press [Ctrl-P] to print a file from a certain page to another page. You will be asked to input the starting page and ending page. The end page will also be printed. If you want to print just one page enter the same page for both the start and end page. The program has to calculate the first page depending on the pmode that's set. If the page number starts far into the file there will be a short pause until the page number is found. If HEADER is on This will be printed right off, Then the page will be found to print. This function works best in Pmode 0 and header off. ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ~ LINE NUMBERING ~ ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ [Ctrl-N] toggles the line numbering on/off. With this on line numbers will be printed before each line. This was mainly added with programers in mind, to easily find a line in there source code. If your lines are long, over 73, then you may want to set compress printing on while using line numbers. page 12 ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ~ FILE MENU ~ ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ Pressing F brings down the file menu. Here you have options to COPY, MOVE or DELETE the files that are "MARK". [C] Copies all of the marked files to the target path. 2. [M] Moves the marked files to target path. 3. [D] Delete all of the marked files ( CAUTION! ) 4. [Esc] to leave this menu. During any of these operations you can abort by pressing escape. Be warn that when you delete files they are DELETED very fast. Please use caution. The path and file being copied to is in display at the top. Before a copy or a move PrintPlus checks to make sure the files will not be copied to themselves. For example if you try to copy from/to the same path. If there's not enough room PrintPlus will not copy that file. It will try the next file. If you want to abort press escape. The files not copied or moved will still be marked. Also if a file already exist you will be asked if you want to overwrite it or not. If you wish to overwrite a file PrintPlus checks to make sure there's enough room. Files with the same name can be of different length. page 13 ┌─────────────────────────────────────┐ │ REDIRECTING OUTPUT TO AN ASCII FILE ├─┐ └─┬───────────────────────────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────────────┘ This feature will let you Redirect the output to a file instead of printing it. 1. Cursor to the subject file. 2. Change to the Pmode you want to save the file with. (0,1,2,3) 3. Toggle between Ibm box graphics and User defined replacement characters. 4. [Esc] to abort page 14 If the file already exist you will be asked if you want to overwrite it or not. This feature is great for re-formatting doc files, etc. Saves disk space. Also this strips out some strange formatting characters. If you choose to abort just press [Enter] on an empty string. (no filename). In most cases this would be a printer reset command. FORMFEED Set this with your printer codes for Formfeed. Normally set to 12. SPECIAL Set this to whatever you want. Can use it for special type of printing. PICA Here you enter the code for pica (normal) type. (10 cpi) COMPRESS Compress printing. (17.5 cpi) Usually set with either 15 or 27 15. NLQ Near letter quality or Correspondence Quality. Different for most printers. END CODE This is the code sent to the printer at the end of a print session. Can be set up as a reset like the initialize setting. NOTE: 1. You could enter 12 for a formfeed here. This would eject the last page enough to remove it from your printer, at a cost of a sheet of paper. 2. Any of the above codes can be unselected by entering 255 as the first code. 3. When I print a file with PrintPlus the header has strange characters. Whats wrong? A. These are IBM Box Characters. If your printer supports them look up the codes to set IBM graphic mode 1. Put these codes in the initialize sequence in the printer setup. Or else you may be able to set your printer dip switches to support IBM Graphic mode 1. If your printer does not support them ,switch PrintPlus to User defined Characters with Alt-B from the file display. This will change the IBM box characters to ones that will print on your printer and resemble somewhat the box characters. Q. I can't get PrintPlus to print with my serial printer. A. PrintPlus comes setup for a parallel printer. If you have a serial printer redirected with the "mode" command, then go to the Setup menu. Press T for parallel/serial toggle. Q. How can I stop PrintPlus from dropping data files all over my disk? or PrintPlus doesn't always start up with my default settings. How come? A. You must put the set variable in your "Autoexec.bat" file. This is how PrintPlus knows where to keep/find the data file. Example: Set PLUSDATA=C:\util\ The data file will then reside in your util directory on the C drive. page 23 Q. When using CTRL-P (Print from Page n to Page n) the pages printed don't seem to jive with the ones I wanted to print. A. PrintPlus will calculate the page numbers differently depending on the pmode that you are in. Also if header is on there may be a minor adjustment. If you use Pmode 0 with this function the pages should print out correctly. Of course some files do not start the page numbering at the beginning. If you take a look some files you will notice that the page numbering actually starts at some point into the file. For example lets say the file starts with four pages before the page numbering. Add 4 to the numbered page you want to print ( Pmode 0 header off ). Q. PrintPlus froze after using my mouse. what can I do? A. Check your drag button on your mouse. If this was accidentally, or purposely clicked down then you will not get any response until you release the drag button. Q. How can I speed up the cursor when accessing a floppy? A. Toggle the information display off with Alt-I. This will turn off the display of the file size ,date, time and free space. SLEEK File reformatting utility Sleek's main purpose is to copy a file to one that will be easier to place in to certain Word Processors such as wysiwyg. Sleek will trim extra spaces at the end of a line. Then all EOL (end of line) Linefeed and carriage returns within paragraphs will be eliminated. Sleek has an option to set word wrap from 20-32768. The output can be quite different depending on the word wrap value. Sleek is Shareware $10.00. If You are a Registered PrintPlus user you can use Sleek freely.
